Description

The Veniard English Partridge Skin is complete and comes come with the head, wings and tail of the English Partridge bird. These feathers are beautiful and natural with unique markings. The feathers on this skin are mainly used for all kinds of trout flies and are exceptionally popular with fly tyers. These feathers have fairly long barbs and are most commonly used for leg patterns on nymph flies. They are also regularly used for tying hackle for spider patterns as well.

The neck feathers have a primarily grey and white fleck colour and the brown back feathers are similar in their pattern with an overall sepia wash. Each pack contains a variety of usable neck feathers for tying soft hackled wet flies and spiders, and also makes great tailing and shellcase material for nymphs. Veniard has developed a great reputation in England for their quality tying materials and we are more than glad to offer them to our customers here in Australia. These go quick so get ’em while they are around!

Veniard Partridge Feathers are a favorite for tying soft hackle classics such as the famous ‘Partridge & Orange’ or ‘March Brown’ wetflies which ever since have proven their fish catching abilities. However these soft feathers add a lot of realism and movement to modern nymph-patterns in the form of legs, antenna and hackles. Moreover English partridge is the ideal choice for imitating mouth parts and legs on shrimp and scud-flies – e.g. the ‘Pattegrisen’. You can either hackle or dub this material to create very tantalizing patterns or use entire feathers for tying caddis wings.

As well as complete skins, we also carry packs of natural grey neck feathers, olive dyed neck feathers and natural brown back feathers.

Of course, if you want to create all sorts of natural looking fly patterns, then our ever growing range of natural feathers is the ideal place to start. Aside from all the hackles, marabou, Coq De Leon and Cul De Canard that we have on offer, you can find some real gems the Other Feathers Category of the Troutlore Flytying Store.
