Description
The humble Stick Caddis is a major staple in the diet of stillwater trout and a pattern that is deadly not only in lakes, but in rivers as well. My Stickie 3.0 is a variation on the regular Stick Caddis I offer, that comes with a back-story. This is a pattern that was pieced together in a dream (yes, I still think about tying flies when I am asleep) and hastily brought together the next morning while coffee was being made for me by my good friend and flyfishing guide, Scott McPherson.
The concept was simple enough, a weighted, extended body Stick Caddis for targeting deep holding fish sighted in clear water. It needed weight to get it down and length to impress a more realistic ‘stick’ that didn’t just look like a hook. Taking Scott McPherson’s bead head Stick Caddis, and using the dubbing blend I had created for him to use on that pattern, the Stickie 3.0 was born. It account for two fish over 4lb sighted in a small mountain stream later that morning and hasn’t failed me in similar situations since.
Now sold as single units per hook size. Buy as few or as many as you like!
Of course, if you want to tie this pattern yourself, Troutlore will eventually offer a complete materials kit for this pattern. I just haven’t gotten around to making retail quantities of the dubbing blend just yet. So, watch this space.
All flies sold at Troutlore are tied by hand in Australia by Rob from Troutlore, or designated tyers for specific patterns who are noted in the descriptions. This pattern is tied on quality Ahrex hooks and using the best materials, the Stick 3.0 Caddis is a great addition to any fly box for all times of the the stream and lake season. This pattern is only available in sizes #12 and #14 as the dimensions just don’t work on anything smaller, and it becomes a weapon if tied on anything larger.
Sizes showing as “In Stock” represent flies that are ready to ship immediately. Any sizes showing as “Available to Backorder” will be tied after completed payment of order. This usually requires a 5-7 day turnaround depending on the current tying queue. Your complete order will be shipped as one after all flies have been tied. We will contact you is further unforeseen delays arise with a fly order.
