The Pheasant Tail Nymph should need no introduction. It’s a fly that is found in every self respecting trout angler’s fly box, and one of the first flies most fly tyers learn. It’s a great starting point for learning essential skills, and a fly that will continue to fool fish year after year. This pattern is brilliant for lake fishing when there are mayflies about, or on the rivers as a single nymph to fish feeding high in the water column, or trailing a heavier fly as part of a tandem rig.
