Description
The Elk & Foam Stimulator is a favourite pattern of mine for fishing pocket water as a general searching pattern and for fishing meadow streams later in summer when the hoppers are well and truly hitting the water. The combination of cow elk hair and a hook shank wrapped with foam gives this fly that little extra buoyancy to keep you fishing it longer without drying or additional treatment. The shank is wrapped with a fine strip of 1mm foam in place of using dubbing and because of this, the added width of the body requires a smaller hackle feather to match up to the hook size. This ensures maximum buoyancy whilst still keeping the hook point clear of stiff hackle that could impede the hook set. .Tied on Firehole 718 Barbless hooks, these are not only sharp, but they a tough and ready to hold your fish until you get it to the net, with the wide gape aiding in hookup rates around the palmered body hackle.
Now sold as single units per hook size. Buy as few or as many as you like!
Of course, if you want to tie this pattern yourself, Troutlore offers a complete materials kit for this pattern. You can find the ‘TieYourOwn’ kit for Elk & Foam Stimulator here.
