It’s the announcement a number of you have been waiting to hear since the original announcement of the Firehole Outdoors matte range of Firehole Stones was first announced a couple of years back. I think it took all of about ten minutes after that first announcement of the original range before someone was asking when they would be available in a slotted format. Well, the wait is finally over.

For those of you who jumped on the pre-order option on the Troutlore site, your Firehole Slotted Stones are shipping this weekend as we have just completed the inventory checks on the new Firehole shipments to land this week and are ready to go for any new orders. This product range is pretty exciting as it allows those of your tying with one of the three styles of Firehole Jig hooks available to have a matching matte coloured bead to make the most of the low-riding capabilities of those hooks.

FIREHOLE SLOTTED STONES AUSTRALIA FLY TYING MATERIALS HEAVY TUNGSTEN BEADS TROUTLORE FLYTYING

For those of you who don’t quite know how these work, they are a heavy tungsten bead in a number of matte finished colours. Unlike regular cyclops style beads, the slotted options have the read hole cut to an elongated slot. This allows the bead to be place on the hook and then tied in with the bead pushed up, above the hook shank. In doing so, it further shifts the center of gravity on your fly and greatly aides it’s ability to ride upside down in the current. This means you can drag your nymph patterns right along the bottom of the streambed with a far lower chance of snagging on the bottom.
