Description
For those of you looking for something a little special in your fly tying materials, we offer a limited supply of New Zealand Possum Tails in Blonde. These New Zealand possum tail are expertly harvested, prepared and tanned before export and the big jump across the ditch so you can make the most of them in your fly tying. It took us a long time to find the right supplier of possum tails and body hair in New Zealand and we are confident that these are of the best quality you are going to find. Then, they go through a couple of processes here at Troutlore HQ to get them a bold golden blonde colour, yet still keeping them soft and supple. These are not always available when regular possum tails are in stock, but we try to keep processing batches as often as possible.
PLEASE NOTE : Due to the fullness of recent tails, it is not possible to get them to a light blonde, without burning out the hair. So, they are a darker, dirty blonde colour. The tail shown in the images is representative of a typical blonde tail. The one you receive may be slightly darker if larger, or slightly light is a little smaller.
These are the same tails we use for out Blonde Possum Emerger and our Tabanas fly patterns. TieYourOwn Kits for those are available when healthy quantitues of blonde tails are in stock.
Best of all, they help to reduce the possum problem in NZ and help protect the local wildlife by reducing the possum population. All that, AND you now have the only material you can really use to tie a possum tail emerger. Nothing else compares. The slightly oily, very wiry hair is quite unlike any other animal hide or tail hair and so is a must have on any tying bench. What’s more, with the tails averaging approximately 30cm each, there is enough hair on there to keep any fly tying well stocked until the turn of the century. You should be right with just the one of these. Alright, maybe two if you really go for it.
Of course, if you want to create all sorts of natural looking streamer fly patterns, then our ever growing range of natural hairs and furs is the ideal place to start. Don’t just settle on looking in the Hare & Rabbit category when you’re chasing quality winging and body furs, check out the Specialty Species Category of the Troutlore Flytying Store as well. Plus, we keep a great selection of Calf and Bucktail as well, in a big range of colours to take care of your freshwater and saltwater fly tying needs. If you can’t find a product you are specifically looking for, get in touch and we will see if it can be sourced, and kept in stock. Plus, you can keep up to date with new releases through our newsletter and social media outlets.
