Description

They call flies tied with bead chain eyes whistlers because of the whistling noise they make as they sail past your ear at 176 miles-per-hour. This is ordinary but excellent stuff for making lightly weighted flies for fresh and saltwater fish. Hareline bead chain eyes for fly tying is (or should we say are) offered in three basic colors and three basic sizes. All are available in the Troutlore store.

We know, seriously, that it is important to not over weight our flies. This is especially true for flats fishing where a too-heavy fly will not be eaten by bonefish or permit. On the other hand, a not heavily enough weighted fly will not reach the proper depth in time for the fish to see it.

Bottom line, even though bead chain has been around forever, it has a revered place in our fly bench.

These metal bead chains for are still popular for bass, streamers, and saltwater patterns. I love to use them for damsel patterns too, offering just a little weight to slowly sink the fly, but not so much that it smashed the water’s surface.

Will not tarnish.

The length of chain in the package is about 10″.
