Well, the end of January is upon as and we are now two thirds of the way through summer. I have just recently put to bed my article for Hooked Up magazine about trout fishing in summer, which should be available in tackle stores next week. Keep an eye out for that one. We may be two thirds of the way through calendar summer, but we all know this is not the extent of it. February and March are usually the hottest months, with plenty of heat, sun and bugs going through into April. So, there is still plenty of excellent summer terrestrial fishing to be had. And plenty of litres of fluid to be sweated out as you make you way to and from the back country locations that are never easy to get to in the heat.
Next week I am headed for an undisclosed location in the Gippsland area as there has been plenty of rain this week and I know a river that clears up very quickly and fishes quite well even right after heavy rain. And that is all part of the fun really, getting out there, clocking up the kilometers in the car, then clocking up a whole lot more on foot in search of that distant piece of water, that untouched stretch that will hold new surprises. But, I didn’t sit down at my desk to waffle on about the lure of unknown waters. I’ll save that for another time.
Keep an eye on the Instagram feed this week and see what comes of this trip I have lined up. I might actually catch something.
